When refining the residue, it is important to change the size of users` stories. It is important that the team decides the maximum size of the user`s story that it can record and finish in an iteration. Ideally, the user`s story should be small enough to be completed in 25 percent of the sprint time. The most important element of creating a work agreement is that it must be implemented by the whole team. If you`re a decision maker or influencer on your team, it`s easy to do. Otherwise, you will have to convince your teammates of the benefits of making one. Encourage them to identify specific soft skills and interpersonal behaviours. Be sure to disconnect the team document for agreements. Some teams agree by showing a hand show, others can physically maintain the paper that contains the list of chords and brainstorming notes. This requires public accountability between them and the project manager.
Some teams print them out and post them near their desk or conference room. Bruce Tuckman first proposed in 1965 the team development model “training, storming, standardizing, implementing.” He said that these phases are all necessary and inevitable for a team to grow, meet challenges, tackle problems, find solutions, plan the work and produce results. This is a real-life scenario that happened in one of the company-wide IT projects I participated in as a stakeholder a few years ago. What went wrong in this situation? What could have helped avoid the situation? If there had been genuine team agreements, defined and used, many of these problems could have been avoided. The docking is a ceremony for which scrum has no specified time. The hardest part is that the team members have to take time for this meeting as part of their last sprint. It`s like saving 10% of your salary for future use. The ScrumMaster should make it easier for team members and product owner to agree on slots of one to two hours each at some point during the sprint.
